Recoveries surpass new cases; India keeps active cases under 10 lakh

India recorded a total of 76,737 recoveries in the past 24 hours taking the total number to 55,86,703, with the daily recoveries surpassing the new infections of COVID-19, India has been able to keep the number of active cases to less than a million for two consecutive weeks.

According to the government data, the active cases in India are 9,34,427 which is only 14.11 per cent of the total number of positive cases reported so far. In an official statement, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that the central government’s ‘test, track and treat technology’ has borne results.

It said, “Early identification of the cases through aggressive and accessible countrywide testing combined with other measures such as prompt and efficient tracking and tracing of the contacts have borne results.” Apart from that, India recorded a total of 76,737 recoveries in the past 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 55,86,703.

The data suggested that around 75 per cent of the new recovered cases have been recorded from the 10 states and union territories of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha, Delhi, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh. With 15,048 recoveries in the past 24 hours, Maharashtra tops the list followed by 7,287 of Karnataka and 7,084 of Andhra Pradesh.

While Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh reported over 5,000 recoveries each, over 4,000 recoveries were reported from Kerala and Odisha each. Delhi also reported 3,126 recoveries. Over 2,000 recoveries were reported each from West Bengal and Chhattisgarh. On the other hand, around 74,442 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 903 deaths were reported in the country in the past 24 hours with Maharashtra reporting the highest number of cases.

Maharashtra reported a total of 12,548 fresh cases and 326 new deaths in the past 24 hours followed by 10,145 new cases and 67 new deaths of Karnataka. Kerala also reported 8,553 cases and 23 deaths while Andhra Pradesh reported a total of 6,242 cases and 40 deaths. Similarly, a total of 5,489 fresh cases and 66 new deaths were reported from Tamil Nadu.

National capital Delhi also reported 2,683 new cases and 38 new deaths in the past 24 hours. With this, the total number of positive cases in India has surpassed the 66-lakh mark with 66,23,815 total cases. Around 1,02,685 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19.
