Says, Gracy Singh,”Varanasi, the Holy city of India is famous for its street food and a popular destination for backpackers. The city has a delectably rich tradition of cuisine – from steaming kachoris and jalebis to refreshing lassi and thandais. One dish that you only get in Varanasi is Maliyoogarnished with saffron and pistachios at Godowlia market and is a must-try! For local street food, visit Deena Chat Bhandar for lip-smacking chaat and snacks especially TamatarChaat, Puran Das Road for BaatiChokha, Banaras Hindu University for Chole Samosas, Chana Dall Hing Kachori near Gopal Mandir Gali, Ram Bhandar for steaming tangy kachoris, Lassi outside the Ramnagar Fort. Even Kachori Galli and Neelkanth also have great options. Also do not miss the TikkiChaat at Kashi ChaatBhandaar, Katori Chaat at Godowlia market where there are numerous chaat food joints. For the ones with a sweet tooth, Malai Cup, Jalebis are fantastic options, and one can try Varanasi Sweets at Gopal Mandir Gali. When is Varanasi, the BanarasiPaan in two variants – sweet and spicy is essential after a scrumptious meal! The city has one of the most fantastic places to eat, and I do make it a point to visit these places with my friends and family whenever I am here. This World Food Day, I would urge everyone to savour each bite and respect the food that we have on our plate. It will make a significant difference.”
